Located on Cos Cob Harbor, Cos Cob is a neighborhood of Greenwich, Connecticut, and a thriving historical community that boasts a welcoming village atmosphere and a one-of-a-kind appeal. The community’s name has been traced to two different origins: one being a native word for “a great ledge of rocks,” the other being that a man created a clay structure called a cob in the area.

Cos Cob is a quiet village-like section of Greenwich. The town’s main business area is incredibly accessible due to the fact that many of the businesses are within walking distance of each other. Located along the Mianus River, Cos Cob has the benefit of both waterfront living and suburban life. Another highlight is the Mianus River Park, accessible from Cognewaugh Road, is a 391-acre nature park on the Greenwich/Stamford border that includes a 2 mile stretch on the Mianus River offering fly fishing, trails for hiking, mountain biking and wide variety of wildlife. The Montgomery Pinetum is a 61-acre park that includes the Greenwich Botanical Center accessible on Bible Street in Cos Cob.

Cos Cob has many charming shops and restaurants to visit. The main business drag can be found along Putnam Avenue. When looking for a bite to eat in Cos Cob, one popular restaurant to visit is The Little Pub. As its name suggests, Little Pub is a pub-style restaurant serving classic pub fare such as burgers and wraps alongside great sides. Fjord Fish Market is a popular choice for seafood, with everything from small plates to large platters. For Italian fare, Louie’s is an upscale trattoria with pasta and meat dishes served alongside delectable wines and a full bar.

Things to Do

 

There are many activities to enjoy in the Cos Cob area. Whether you want to spend time out at a park or enjoy a local event, there is something fun for everyone to enjoy in Cos Cob. Greenwich Historical Societies museum galleries, library, archives and the National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House, exhibit galleries and the Vanderbilt Education center. Greenwich Crew is an established team of competitive athletes and recreational rowers. It is located on the Mianus River.

Cos Cob has many parks that are perfect for a day out. Cos Cob Park is one of the best parks in the area and is home to many amenities. Here, you can find picnic areas, a playground, a multi-purpose field, and a 9/11 memorial. Another highlight is the Mianus River Park. There are also many events to enjoy in the area. Tavern Garden Market is a great way to find local produce and home goods, held every other Wednesday from May through November. Music on the Great Lawn is another local event with weekly concerts perfect for picnicking and enjoying a day out. Greenwich Historical Society’s annual Antiquarius fundraiser is a fun way to find decorative art, antiques, and more. Held in December of each year, the fundraiser is the perfect place to find holiday-themed goods as well.
