A waterfront boating and sailing community.
Located between Cos Cob and Old Greenwich, Riverside is a historic Long Island Sound boating and sailing community. With its history dating as far back as the mid-1600s and renamed Riverside in 1869, this area was first developed by Jeremiah Atwater to attract summer residents from New York City, and it has evolved into the year-round haven it is today.
The neighborhood offers slightly larger wooded lots and more room to breathe than in Old Greenwich next door.
Riverside is a charming and incredibly accessible neighborhood, as the streets and waterfront are walkable. Families love the great schools and quietness of the area, while young professionals love the location’s proximity to greater business districts in nearby neighborhoods and towns. Riverside’s Long Island location attracts avid boaters and maritime enthusiasts, making this community a sleepy, almost wholly-residential Greenwich neighborhood.
Riverside is primarily residential but has some great shops and restaurants in the area. When looking for a place to eat in Riverside, one of the most popular places is Aida’s Kitchen + Cafe. This cozy cafe offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner to go, as well as local, artisan coffee and candy (for which the shop is well-known). Aux Délices Foods - Riverside is also a great place to find a quick bite to eat. Offering French and New American fare in a high-end deli setting, Aux Délices Foods offers both in-house and to-go meals.
Many stores are also available in Riverside and the surrounding areas. A favorite place in the neighborhood is Balducci’s, a grocery store with local products ranging from meats to dairy and produce.
Riverside residents primarily enjoy the quiet and drive to neighboring towns for more shopping and entertainment options. Whether you want to spend time at a park or the waterfront or you want to enjoy a local event, there is something fun for everyone to enjoy.
If you’re looking for a fun, local event to enjoy, St. Catherine of Siena’s Carnival of Fun is a must-see. This annual event takes place during a week in July and is the perfect place to spend time together as a family. There are carnival rides, food, and entertainment for all ages.
Located on the Long Island Sound, Riverside Yacht Club is a private club established in 1888, it is the second oldest club of it’s kind. It hosts major regattas and offers sailing lessons for all ages.
There are also several outdoor spaces in the Riverside area. Dundee Woods is also an expansive nature area with Edward R Schongalla Nature Preserve located within the park, as well as several walking trails. The riverfront is also a great place to spend time outdoors and on the water.
